Braised Brisket

Sweet & Sour Braised Beef Brisket
Yield: 6 servings

4 pound beef brisket
2 cups sliced onions
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 cup diced carrots
1 cup diced celery
1 ½ cups ketchup
¼ cup vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
½ cup gluten-free soy sauce
1 cup brown sugar
1 ½ cups water

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place the brisket in a large roasting pan or casserole dish. Arrange onions, mushrooms, carrots, and celery on top and around the sides of the brisket.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together ketchup, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, and water. Pour the sauce over the brisket.
  3. Cover the brisket with foil and cook 3 to 3 ½ hours until the brisket is fork tender. Remove brisket from the oven and let sit for 15 to 20 minutes before carving.
