It's Super Tuesday! Where Do the Candidates Stand on Health Care?

Today is Super Tuesday, which means that folks in 10 states are voting in the 2012 Republican Presidential Primaries. There are a total of 437 delegates at stake in Massachusetts, Idaho, Virginia, Ohio, Vermont, Alaska, Georgia, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Tennessee, so, naturally, we decided to put together a brief guide on where the Republican nominee candidates stand on health care policy. We’ve done our best to focus on allergy treatment. Happy Super Tuesday!

Ron Paul:
As a once practicing physician, Ron Paul has an interesting perspective on health care and current FDA policy. For example, he, unlike the FDA, is in favor of instate sales of natural foods like raw milk, which is an unprocessed form of milk. Overall, Paul feels the government should not have control over Americans’ food choices. Learn more about Ron Paul's health care plans at: http://www.ronpaul.com/on-the-issues/health-care/

Mitt Romney:

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is known for his Massachusetts Health Care Plan, which was enacted in 2006. The plan provides free health care for individuals living below the poverty line but who are not eligible for Medicaid. An independent public authority works as a “broker” of sorts with private health care providers to continue selling plans to state residents. Today, Romney opposes ObamaCare and wants to implement policy which will hand health care reform to the states, reducing the federal government's role in the health care equation. Newt Gingrich:

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has outlined his own health care plan, which intends on reforming the Food and Drug Administration. His goal is to increase medical breakthroughs for patients. Gingrich is in favor of handing Medicare and Medicaid to individual states, and is concerned over wasteful spending and corruption in healthcare. Rick Santorum:
Candidate Rick Santorum is opposed to ObamaCare, calling it the “best example of an explosion of government.” Santorum’s plan to repeal ObamaCare would allow patients to purchase health care across state borders, enabling them to find a plan best suited for the individual needs.  Learn more about Rick Santorum's health care plans at: http://www.ricksantorum.com
