Gluten-Free: Not a Fad Diet!

Several media outlets and celebrities alike have touted the gluten-free "diet" as a miracle diet that will help you quickly shed those unwanted pounds, clear and clarify your skin, and provide extra energy.  However, promoting this as a "fad diet" is certainly not valid.

Cheryl Luptowski is the Public Information Officer/Home Safety Expert for NSF International.  She recently posted an informative article, "Gluten-Free: Not a Fad But a Necessity for 18 Million Americans".  Ms. Luptowski  shares the reality that for those who suffer from gluten intolerance, gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, this is not a choice, but a necessity.

I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue last year. It's an auto immune disease not an allergy or fad. I have not lost weight, I've gained. My skin didn't clear up, it broke out terribly and still does. More than anything else, no one should self-diagnose themselves or self-impose a diet change upon themselves without consulting their physician and a dietitian. You don't know what you're doing to yourself. I've had a great support system.
